Chief of Staff (EU)
Amber Electric
People & HR, Operations
London, UK
⚡ About Amber
Amber is a new way to buy and sell power, designed for a world powered by renewable energy. We give customers direct access to the real-time wholesale electricity price as it varies every 5 mins and the technology to shift more of their energy usage to the times when cheaper renewables are available in the grid. It’s a cheaper way to buy power, a smarter way to sell power, and the fastest way for Australia to reach 100% renewable energy.
We’re a clear category leader in Australia for home battery automation and are growing rapidly (over 80,000 customers). We’ve also recently expanded into licensing our core technology to utilities overseas, including a partnership with E.ON Next in the UK. We are backed by leading VCs (including Square Peg Capital from Australia and Environmental Technology Fund from UK), impact-focused investors and individuals, and corporate partners (including E.ON Next, Gentrack, and Commonwealth Bank).
We’re now at a critical moment in scaling as we disrupt a huge market for the better. You’d be a part of a rapidly growing team of over 200, with expertise across energy, technology, marketing, and operations. We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and a great culture of people who love coming to work to build a better world.
💻 About the Role
This role will support the Amber for Utilities team, that licenses our technology to energy retailers and utilities worldwide. Amber has cracked something genuinely rare - a technology that benefits consumers, utilities, and the grid all at once. Having built a loyal following in Australia by giving people direct access to wholesale energy prices and automating smart devices to save them money, we're now taking that model global. This role is critical to support the team and business in the UK and Europe more broadly. The foundations have been laid, but this role will allow us to scale this part of Amber.
Amber for Utilities Europe (A4U) is live, major utility partnerships are underway, and we've reached an inflection point. We are entering our next critical phase of growth, where the way we run things needs to keep pace with the business itself. We've got real momentum — a growing customer base, a product that's genuinely changing how Australians use energy, and an expansion into Europe that's just getting started.
Our executive team is strong and our co-founder CEOs are deeply invested in where we're headed. But as we scale, we need more structure around how the leadership team operates — better rhythm, clearer cross-functional coordination, and someone who makes sure the important things don't get lost in the noise. We need someone to open up greater leverage for the leadership team and Amber’s strategic direction.
That's where this role comes in. As Chief of Staff, you'll be the connective tissue that keeps our leaders sharp, aligned, and moving. Most critically, you will sew together the Australian and European business operations, to ensure that the European team are getting everything they need from HQ to be successful. Part rhythm-setter, part trusted advisor, part whoever-needs-to-own-this person. You won’t run a department, but you’ll run the machine that makes every department and the leadership run better. You'll work across everything — cross-functional decisions, strategic priorities, meeting cadences — and you'll have unlimited access and context. The scope is deliberately open-ended. We want someone who'll figure out what this role needs to be at Amber, not someone who'll replicate what it looked like somewhere else.
Ideally this person will spend 6 of their first 12 months at Amber based in Melbourne, Australia, and then move to Europe (ideally London, UK) to be based there permanently, with semi-regular trips back to Melbourne. We believe this onboarding with the Australian team will best set this person up to succeed and deliver, by building strong foundations with HQ first, and then taking that cultural context over to the Europe team. We are open to the specific arrangements and can discuss this in your screening call if you are selected, but please only apply if you are comfortable with a version of this arrangement.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the executive team's operating rhythm ****— agendas, pre-reads, making sure decisions get made rather than deferred, and following up on the things people committed to but haven't done yet
- Be the connective tissue across functions — when something falls between two teams, or a decision needs more than one ELT member in the room, you'll see it and do something about it; whether that's facilitating the conversation, flagging it up, or owning it yourself
- Help our co-CEOs get the most out of their time — making sure they're well-prepared for the meetings that matter, protecting their focus during high-demand periods, and handling the things that don't need to reach them at all
- Allow information to flow better across the organisation — translating what's happening at the exec level into clear, consistent messages, and making sure they actually reach the people who need to hear them
- Form and lead the ELT+ group — our extended leadership layer that sits just below the executive team — setting the rhythm, keeping information flowing across it, and helping it become a genuinely useful part of how Amber runs
- Pick up whatever needs a trusted owner — new initiatives, time-sensitive projects, things that don't fit neatly anywhere else
What We're Looking For
- You've spent time (4+ years) in a fast-moving and high-pressure environment — ideally in a Chief of Staff role (1-2 years), or in strategy or business operations, where you were genuinely part of the leadership team, not just adjacent to it
- Perhaps you’ve worked in an industry such as start-ups, tech, VCs, consulting, investment banking, etc.
- You may have a strong academic background - one that has set you up with the foundational knowledge you need to speak organisational language.
- You've seen a company scale — you understand what breaks when an organisation grows quickly, and you've got instincts for how to fix it before it becomes a problem
- You're a strong communicator. You write clearly, speak plainly, and know when to say less. You can hold your own in a room full of experienced people without needing to be the loudest voice in it
- You're comfortable with ambiguity — this role doesn't come with a fixed set of deliverables and the scope will evolve. Some weeks you'll have a clear agenda; other weeks you'll be making it up as you go, and that should feel energising, not stressful
- You're a low-ego operator. You'll have a lot of context and access, but the role works best when you're focused on the team winning rather than being seen to win
- You've got enough commercial and financial literacy to engage credibly on business decisions — you don't need to be a CFO, but you should be able to read a board pack and ask the right questions
Benefits
- We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and a great culture of people who love coming to work to build a better world;
- You’d be a part of a rapidly growing global team of over 200 shaping the future of household and grid energy use;
- Flexible working hours & remote working - see How We Work for more info;
- Shares in Amber Electric;
- Employment and leave entitlements as per your local country;
- An external Employee Assistance Plan for mental health support;

👩💻 How We Work
We work predominantly remotely, with Amber’s flexible culture allowing you to shape your schedule around core collaboration hours.
