Job Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

What you’d be doing in this role

You will be based in Manila, and our program in the Philippines will be the primary focus of your work. We have a physical campus in Manila. You will report to our Step 2 Philippines Lead. You will also work with other global Canva Offices on company-wide initiatives and establishing best practices.

Your role will support all 4 of our Step 2 pillars, with a strong emphasis on these 2:

Help Local Communities

  • Our vision is to proactively impact the lives of people in need in our local communities through projects, volunteering and spaces.

Empower Nonprofits

  • Our vision is to empower every nonprofit with communication tools to be more effective at achieving their goals.

We’re looking for a program manager to support and scale our volunteering and nonprofit projects and programs in the Philippines. Each Canvanaut gets 3 days of paid volunteering leave each year, we match donations our employees make to registered NFPs dollar-for-dollar, and we create community projects and partnerships to impact homelessness and hardship.

A core part of this role will be:

  • supporting all teams and individuals at Canva to get involved in Step 2 initiatives as easily as possible, by creating seamless processes and systems to empower them, and by capturing their stories and celebrating their impact along the way.
  • empowering our community and nonprofit partners and groups to make use of Canva’s spaces and benefit from Canvanauts volunteering their time and talents

What you'll do and achieve

  • Partnerships: Support and nurture new and existing relationships with local nonprofit partners and nonprofit users for Canva’s volunteering and gift matching programs and nonprofit initiatives in Canva spaces/at external events
  • Team: Support and grow employee engagement and the growth of our volunteering, gift-matching, and community programs; Understand how Canva can best use our skills to help our local Filipino nonprofit communities in the best way; Manage all volunteer engagement and be the go-to person for individuals and teams on all things local volunteering
  • Operations: Optimise Canva processes to ensure our Step 2 initiatives operate seamlessly while delivering great impact; Coordinate logistics for all nonprofit and volunteering events by owning the Volunteering Calendars and Team Bonding Calendars end-to-end (to align with the broader team and Canva-wide events and cadences)
  • Impact measurement: Support how we capture impact (both quantitative and qualitative) across our 4 key pillars and key internal and external stakeholder. e.g. volunteers and nonprofits.
  • Communication: Build a strong ‘give back’ culture at Canva through amazing internal communication and celebrations for achieving our impact goals
  • Events: Support all volunteering and Step 2 event management and facilitation (from nonprofit and community workshops to team bonding volunteering to our annual company-wide Force for Good volunteering week)

You're probably a match if

  • You have experience in designing and implementing scalable philanthropic programs that can engage multitudes (100's) of people at once
  • You come from a social impact background with extensive nonprofit engagement expertise, a solid understanding of project management processes, and have experience delivering social impact campaigns or projects, as well as product initiatives.
  • You're impact obsessed - you’re not concerned with just creating noise, but have a nose for seeking, screening and vetting opportunities with the highest potential for impact, exemplifying Canva’s value of “be a force for good”. And then capturing this impact and sharing it via storytelling and data, to demonstrate how we're having an impact on achieving our goals.
  • You are an organizational whiz who loves managing projects and timelines. You will be calm and approachable, exemplifying the Canva value of 'make complex things simple'.
  • You have the ability to engage people in both a face to face and remote/virtual world
  • You have the vision to imagine, create and execute on ideas that will help the Foundation to achieve its goals in a globally distributed environment
  • You have experience in managing skill-based and generalist volunteering projects
  • You have the ability to recruit volunteers for projects and set them up for success (through empowerment, accountability and delegation)
  • You’re confident in public speaking and/or workshop facilitation.
  • You thrive working both autonomously as well as part of a team.
  • You’re a quick learner, willing to dive into the deep end and learn new systems and processes from the get-go
  • You have a solid understanding of tech culture and how to leverage that to achieve your goals
  • You have the ability to achieve your goals through other people
  • You have an appetite for "structured chaos" (the ability to juggle multiple workstreams and wear multiple hats at once to get the job done)
  • You have the ability to communicate impact through various channels, including story-telling and data collation
  • You’re able to develop a broad range of relationships quickly
  • You’re action-oriented and have a proven track record
  • You’re humble and kind
  • You’re passionate about making a positive difference and helping us achieve Canva's Step 2 vision and strategy

About the team

Canva's 2 Step Plan

Canva has had a ‘simple’ Two-Step plan since the very beginning: (1) Become one of the most valuable companies in the world; (2) Do the most good we can.

With the goal of Step Two in mind, we joined Pledge 1% — a global initiative where companies give 1% of their profit, equity, product, or time back to their communities — to help bring our ‘Be a Force For Good’ value to life. And we’ve committed to donating all four of these areas as part of the pledge.

Our founders then pledged the majority of their equity (30% of Canva) to do good in the world through the Canva Foundation, where we believe there's enough money, enough goodwill, and enough creativity and innovation to help solve the world's biggest challenges in our lifetime.

Because of our Two-Step plan, both the Canva Company and the Canva Foundation are key to bringing this 31% pledge to life and every Canvanaut helps contribute towards this mission.

Canva Foundation has crazy big goals and we need a passionate Step 2 Program Manager to help us bring our 2 Step Plan to life and engage Canvanauts in this.

Our focus areas

These 4 pillars underpin our Step 2 work:

  1. Empowering Nonprofits
  2. Quality Education
  3. No Extreme Poverty
  4. Helping Local Communities

The Foundation team

The Foundation is the giving vehicle that funds and supports different programs within our 4 pillars. We're also the team that exists to empower and support all teams across Canva to get involved in our Step 2 work, acting as the 'invisible glue' to create a cohesive Step 2 strategy and impact across Canva.

The engagement of every Canvanaut is key to the Foundation’s success and ability to set crazy big impact goals and make them happen.

Your role will be to mobilize the time, talents, and resources of the Philippines Canvanauts to help make the world better, through creating and connecting opportunities with nonprofits and social impact organizations. You will also help with all other Canva and Foundation-related strategies, projects, and initiatives when needed, with a focus on getting our team as involved as possible.
